Autonumbering appendix

I am creating a document that will be the basis of a template, and it uses autonumbered paragraphs as follows:

  • ChapterTitle 1
  • Heading1 1.1
  • Heading2 1.1.1
  • Heading3 1.1.1.1

At the end of the document, I need a few appendices. The formats for should look the same except that the numbering should be as follows:

  • ChapterTitle A
  • Heading1 A.1
  • Heading2 A.1.1
  • Heading3 A.1.1.1

As far as I could determine, I'll need a new set of paragraph formats just because the numbering require another series label.

What is normally done with paragraph formats in a situation like this? I could a) define a new set of paragraph formats for the appendices and have them available in the catalog of all files, or b) modify the paragraph formats just in the appendix files to use another series. The question really has to do with best practices, and whether it is advisable to have different paragraph formats with the same name; in this case just a varying series label.

All opinions are valid. Thanks.
