Does anyone know what the following structured FM12 client does and what the configuration options are?
XmlUtilities=Standard, Utilities for XML, fminit\xmlutils.dll, structured
The FM12 INI Reference Guide does not explain anything about this (and many other) clients. The documentation is superficial.
We had a problem with running Saxon until we commented out the XmlUtilities line in maker.ini.

My requirement is quite basic and common. I am looing for a CMS to manage the books, fm files, dita files, pictures and glossaries and the publication, is there any recommendation? The cheaper the better.
BTW, I received the advertisement from Adobe for its Creative Cloud, can this work as a CMS? Anyone using it?
I would like to add video to my Frame documents. However, rather than import local content, I would like to retrieve the video from a web site like vimeo. I don't want just to add a link, which opens the video in a browser, but would like the video player to appear within the document itself.
Additionally, does anyone know how to treat video elements in an EDD for structured Frame?

When I try to print to a .ps file I get the message:
"The selected PDF Job Option does not exist n the current installation. Either create this Job Option or select an available Job Option. Continue?"
Background:
Was using FrameMaker 7.2 previously. Recently bought Frame 11 (not an upgrade, full program) and installed it on a new machine that is running under Windows 7. I also bought and installed (didn't upgrade) Acrobat 11 after using Acrobat 7 for years on another machine. There are no previous versions of either app on my Windows 7 machines.
I copied two JobOption files from the old machine (Acrobat 7/Frame 7) to the new machine. They are stored in the same location where I found the preset JobOption files:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 11.0\Acrobat\Settings
In FrameMaker I went to File --> Print Setup and selected Adobe PDF as my default "printer". I set the Default Settings for that printer to the JobOptions file I want to use, which is one of the two I brought over from the other machine (in other words, my JobOptions appear in the list of settings from which to choose).
When I go to print the Book in Frame (Ctrl-P to open the Print Book dialog) I click PDF Setup and the correct PDF Job Options file is shown based on my Print Setup configuration. When I click Set though, I get the above message. I don't understand this message since I both see and can select my JobOptions files in FrameMaker and in Acrobat/Distiller.
I tried reading through the Adobe PDF Creation Settings document to confirm where the JobOptions files need to be stored, but the information I found doesn't seem to cover Windows 7 (named locations don't exist on my system, e.g., Documents and Settings folder).
Can someone clarify for me whether I can use my custom JobOption files from Frame 7 in Frame 11, and if so, where I need to place them? Also, any clarification of this situation in general and why I'd be getting this message when clearly Frame and Acrobat both "see" my JobOptions since they arein the drop-down list, is appreciated.
BTW - I also edited one of my JobOptions in Frame 11 and Saved As a new file but still get the same alert when I proceed.

EDIT: realizing that maybe I should have posted this in the Acrobat forum but since I am working from Frame and accessing settings via Frame, and getting a Frame errror, I started in this forum.
I am using FrameMaker 10 now and want to use a Script that could save current opened files as mif or fm files (version could be selected).
Like all open mif files to fm10 version or all fm files saving to mif7.
Can Framemaker 12 save files down in Framemaker 11 and 10 ? Is it backward compatible?

Trying to get the Robohelp Menus in Framemaker. I have found instructions on how to add dhtml effects. I am trying to create expanding text to publish in HTML.
The 2nd step says select Select Adobe RoboHelp > Dynamic HTML Effects> Drop Down Caption.
I don't see this anywhere and I looked for instructions on how to add it but couldn't find anything.
Using structured Framemaker 12
I have been having this problem with Frame 8 as well as in 9. When I generate my PDF, my bookmarks are not all where they should be. The will not always appear in the order of the pages, and they will be listed under other headings. An example would be, if I had 3 top level tags and each one had 5 things listed under them, When I generate, I might get 6 bookmarks under the first, 4 under the second, and 5 under the third, instead of five under each one.
I have done everything I can think of, and cannot come up with a reason why it is doing this? Any ideas? I can always send a section to someone so they can actually see what I am talking about. At this point, I am not 100% sure if it is Frame or Acrobat, but I am leaning towards Frame.

Hi everybody,
I've been learning FrameMaker for just under a year and I'm tasked with being the resident expert. So far using FM has been strictly a research endeavor but now we are looking to use it for all of our standardized plans (approximately 250 business units in 60+ locations with any number of plans and associated documentation). The plans have to be living documents that will be reviewed and updated annually (in an ideal world).
I was hoping to hear what others have done for organizing working documents at this scale. At the end of the day there will be shared sections but I will be producing 250+ PDFs and RoboHelp menus to house all of these plans. My plan was to put them all into a single book file (I could do multiple books but then if I add any shared chapters I would have to open up all of the books to include it). I have written an ExtendScript code that will cycle through and include/exclude based on top-level element attributes. That way I have everything I need in one place and can push a button to make all of my end products while I am presumably sipping a delicious beverage and feeling like a genius. My major worry is that all of these plans will mean that my book may contain thousands of FM files and insets to Word and Excel, all of which have to live in a library that anybody can come in and find what they are looking for to make updates.
Have others had a similar situation? Are there any good resources for organizing and naming working files when they will be used for several products in FM? And does the fact that I will put all this in SharePoint mean I am headed for disaster?

We're considering moving from our current authoring solution to using Framemaker. We store files in Perforce and want to continue leveraging Perforce. I believe we'd have to create a custom connector to connect Frame with Perforce. Has anyone out there ever done anything like this? If so, I'd appreciate it if you could provide some pointers. We've got the FDK and a sample custom connector, but I was wondering if anyone had any "real world" experience in putting one together.

pagemaker 7.1 - Is there an easy way to update just the header from 1 book to another. I have multiple books - each book has the same header information. I have changed 1 page of the header information that I would like to update to all of the other files in other books.
example:
book 1 - dog book 2 - cat
begals tabby
collies black
terriers siamese
labs persian
In this example - the header for beagle is exactly the same as the header for tabby, the header for collies is the same as black and so on.
I missed the deadline for participating in the feature survey that Adobe sent me recently, so I put up a post on my blog about things I'd like to see in FrameMaker 13. Some of them are extensions of what I wanted to see in FrameMaker 12 (only a few of which were taken care of).

As much as I love FrameMaker, and I've been using it for 20 years, it's getting harder to justify it, especially because of my first point.

I'm working with FramaMaker 10 (and Robohelp 9). We sell our software to an international market, many of whom don't have English as their first language, so for future releases we'd like to edit the most popular of our docs to use simplified technical English. Using it will also make it easier for our users to run text through machine translators and get good quality results, or for us to translate the docs more easily at some point in the future.
Can anyone recommend any grammar checker plugins, ideally for FrameMaker, but at a pinch for Acrobat Pro or RoboHelp.
A quick Google search has turned up:

Boeing Simplified Englsh Checker
HyperSTE
All of which seem to have FM plugins, but they're all pretty opaque about how much they cost without waking up the sales attack dogs. None of them seem to do any try before buy offers either (unlike the excellent 1 month trials for Adobe stuff!).
Anyone tried using any of the above, or others?

I am encountering a problem saving a .fm file as a .xml file. I have saved many .fm files as .xml files in the past with no issues. However, lately FM crashes with a "serious error" on certain files when I try the same save process. My initial thought was that the file was somehow corrupted, but this morning I ran into this scenario: I have 3 FM licenses in my office, I was trying to save a .fm file as .xml and FM kept crashing. So I had another co-worker try to save the exact same file as a .xml file and it WORKED!?!?!?!
We all were using FM 11, but I have since installed FM 12 thinking that version 12 wouldnt have the same problem, but the same issue is happening with both versions of FM. I read that FM has issues when working across a network so I have tried it both ways, across the network and locally and the same issue occurs.
Again, this problem occurs occasionally on various files - not every file, but as previously mentioned I was able to successfully save a file on a different machine that I could not save on my machine. I have the most recent log file that was generated after a crash:

I'm getting a little closer on having the Contents listing of my Microsoft HTML Help file looking the way I want it.
Here's what I want (from one done the "old" way)
Selecting the "Printer Properties" "book", displays info on Printer Properties.
Opening the "Printer Properties" "Book" but selecting Printer Properties displays the same screen as above.
But clicking on one of the sub topics displays info on it (as expected)
But when I try to get the same effect with one converting from FrameMaker, I get this:
In the Contents tab, the "Book" is repeated for each entry, rather than the topics subbed under one book entry. Also, what's that row of stuff above the main window?

Is it possible to remove data from cells depending on the content of the neighbouring cells of a Framemaker table?
Below is a very basic example of the predicament I have. I have hundreds of tables that I need to edit. They contain data in rows of two as below, and are separated by a black row between each pair. The top row always has four variations but for the sake of simplicity in this example it can be either "1" or "2", 2 variations. I want to know if its possible to write a script that will allow me to remove "A" from the cells that have a "2" in the neighbouring cells (immediately above) and retain "A" in all cells with a "1" immediately above. As clear as mud right?
Any help is greatly appreciated, I'm pretty much a total newbie.

Dear Representative,
In FM10. I was instructed to use a font called "gotham book" for my body text. I bought gotham-book.otf and gotham-book.ttf and put them in the FM folder FMINIT\Fonts. I have been using the font but the text looks off to me, horizontally stretched or something. I did a little research on the font and I see there are 3 names for what seem to be the same font, "Gotham Regular", "Gotham-Book" and "Gotham Book"; are any one of these three considered the official font while the other two are unofficial copies? Also, do I need both the otf and ttf files?
