we run Framemaker 10 sucessfully for 2-3 years on a row on Windows Server 2008 R2 with Remote Desktop Services.
We use a specific concurrent useer license for max. 5 users. works great without any problem.
I updated to version Framemaker 12 last month.
PROBLEM: when saving to PDF .. the FM session just crashes without any message .. application is just gone.
I know that the specs of Framemaker doesn't show Windows Server 2008 R2 (is 64-bit), but from what I know, the architecture of Server 2008 is for a big part the same as Windows 7 (64-bit).
Does anybody have any experience with Framemaker crashing when saving to PDF .. and a solution to solve this behaviour?
(I already updated with the latest patch)?
Please also answer when you solved your issue in Windows XP sp3, Windows 7 or Windows 8.

I am unable to install the trial version of Acrobat that comes with the Technical Communication Suite. I have Windows 8.1. I've restarted my computer several times and disabled the virus protection but that did not solve the problem. I also tried running the acropro.msi several times but that did not work either. I get the following message:

I have three questions:
1. Do I have to lock into a 12-month subscription for using the subscription option for Adobe FrameMaker 12, or can I just do month-to-month and cancel after 4-6 months or so?
2. If I use the subscription version for Adobe FrameMaker 12, can I install it on my desktop and laptop, or am I limited to just 1 computer?
3. Related to my second question, does anyone know if I can install the stand-alone version (boxed retail DVD) of FrameMaker 12 and/or Technical Communication Suite 5 on my desktop and laptop?

I publish technical books for customers using Framemaker 12, converting the file to .PS, then distilling to .pdf. For books that are too large, I use the Aerialist Plug-In to split the chapters for faster web viewing. Recently, some customers have installed Acrobat DC and now cannot open the chapters of the split books (the "book" loads, but when they click on a bookmark/chapter, it does not allow them to view). Our customer service team is instructing those customers to reinstall Acrobat XI which has solved the problem, but it's unfortunate they have to do this.
Any ideas of a workaround for the DC users to successfully view my split books without having to re-install XI? Is there something else I can do in my process?
Just interested if anyone is using this product to make pdfs from FrameMaker. My company is considering using it, and I can't find much information out there beyond very high-level reviews.

I need to create an index marker using H2O2, but the 2s need to be in subscript (H2O2 is hydrogen peroxide).
I wonder how to preserve the subscript attribute in the index (I did it here using the HTML editor of this forum).
I tried to put this in my index marker text to refer users to "hydrogen peroxide":
"H2O2, <Emphasis>see </>hydrogen peroxide<$nopage>"
How can I make sure the "2s" stay in subscript in the index?
I use FrameMaker 12.0.4.445, unstructured.

I have been trying to get a structured book to work in Framemaker 2015. The two chapter files are validated. But I cannot get the 'NoName' element in the book structure to work. How do you rename the 'NoName' element? I have read through a number of the forums and help files.
I started with groups and files, and couldn't get that to work. From what I saw on the forum, groups and files in a book file may not be functioning features.
My current file is a book file, with two chapters, Chapter2.fm, and Chapter3.fm.
I haven't seen any guide in the Framemaker documentation (8, 9, 10, 12, or 2015) that helps me get this 'structured book' file concept to work.
Is it not possible to create a structured book? or an endeavor that requires developer capabilities?

I cannot get the "greater than or equal to" symbol to display properly. I can get the less than or equal symbol to display by typing Ctrl+q #, and then formatting it as Symbol font.
According to the Character_Sets.pdf FrameMaker Online reference, the greaterequal symbol is Ctrl+q 3, but when I format it as Symbol, FrameMaker displays a box (which looks to me to be a non-printing character).
Any suggestions on how I get a "greater than or equal to" symbol to display?

We'd like to have access to each others job options files but we're not sure where they are located and how they are saved. One group is using FM 9 and another is FM 8, and the job options seem to be different. Is there a way to save the joboptions from FM 9?

I am using FrameMaker 9.0 on Windows, and I'm trying to add the statement "Page intentionally left blank" on the last page of my chapters. I've found some information online about how to do it, but not step-by-step instructions. I tried each of the solutions (adding a reference frame in the reference pages, adding a new master page), but for some reason, I can't get this to work. I also tried just manually typing the line in, but that's risky because I'll probably forget some in the final edit and/or I'll add/delete text and the pagination will change.
Sorry if this has been posted before. I did a search and couldn't find it.

We need the ability to apply character formats (including superscript and subscript) in the Marker window. I use this feature to generate LOM files, which are greatly helpful, but after generation, I must edit the file directly to apply character tags to individual items to correspond with the style of the text from which the markers have been generated.
For example, I have a list of warnings at the beginning of my book. I place a marker in each warning in the chapters to generate the list of markers. Some of the warnings in the chapters contain the product name which includes an Italic character and a superscript registration character. (The client's style is to use the registration character at every instance.) When I place the text in the Marker window, I have no way to include the character formats for Italics and superscript. Therefore, when the list of warnings is generated, the product name is not styled correctly, and I must edit every instance in that file--every time I generate for a revision.
If the Marker window would accept character format codes like the Variable window does, the problem would be solved.
I'm running FrameMaker 11 on Windows 7. I just changed the settings from unstructured to structured Frame and restarted my computer. Now FrameMaker comes up for a few seconds and goes away. Is there something I can do to get FrameMaker to launch?
I just started to review a document created by our tech writer, and I'm getting error messages.
1) ArialMT Font not available
2) a whole bunch of print color XXX inconsistent.
The tech writer says that no fonts were added and can't explain why all the color inconsistencies exist.
Can anyone shed some light on this?
Hi everyone....I just upgraded to FM10 and now my WebWorks ePublisher Designer (v2013.2) throws a "no valid license key was found to enable Adobe FrameMaker support" when I try to generate help. I suspect I am missing a plug-in for FM, but can't find any mention of it either in FrameMaker help or WebWorks help or support. Can anybody assist??

Good day, i face a problem in FM 2015, I have Framemaker 2015 as Trial and installed last updates on it, working in project in Arabic language.
I will try explain my problem in short lines
Arabic Language has special letter typing called "Arabic Diacritization" for example the in the below pic. (The Pic from FM)
The problem is when i type such letters in arabic and get print the .fm file, the result in the PDF is shown as below pic.
The New Version of FM 13 is really good in handling such language like arabic, but i want to know why this ONLY issue still exist in the Version (Even after update).
the characters that include the arabic diacritics is breaking in the baseline. and this totally wrong in arabic language.
so if you know anything can help or plugin or script to solve this issue, as this way of type in arabic can change the meaning in language.
please try to send any thing help me here ASAP.

I am using FM12, unstructured. I would like to set the entire content of a chapter to a certain conditional text (by selecting all content and setting the condition).
My problem is with tables. This action only sets the table as a frame, but does not set the table cell contents as conditional. Is there a simple way to do this without scripting?
